BET - HBweCU HBCU INITIATIVE
Illuminating the Brilliance of HBCUs
Grassroots Activations | Video Production | Education | Band Collaborations
Timeline: 2023 - 2024
The Challenge
One hundred and four institutions. Millions of graduates. Generations of excellence, innovation, and undeniable impact — and still, not everyone understood what an HBCU truly means. Not just to the students who walk those hallowed grounds, but to culture, to history, to the very fabric of this country.
BET HBweCU was ready to change the narrative. Not quietly. Not carefully. Loudly, proudly, and on a national stage.
What We Did
We hit the road. Literally.
We built a custom truck — a rolling monument to HBCU excellence — and sent it across the country, because some stories are too big to tell from a single stage. Wherever it stopped, it turned heads, sparked conversations, and reminded people that these 104 institutions aren't just schools. They are the birthplace of greatness.
And we made sure the world could see it. We produced powerful video content that didn't just name all 104 HBCUs — it celebrated them. Their legacy. Their culture. Their graduates who went on to reshape medicine, law, music, business, politics, and every room they ever walked into. These weren't highlight reels. They were love letters. Evidence. Proof that when you invest in Black excellence, the return is immeasurable.
From high-touch experiences that put people inside the HBCU story, to content that traveled far beyond any single campus, this was a celebration that was long overdue and impossible to ignore.
One hundred and four schools. One undeniable truth. HBCU excellence doesn't need an introduction — it needs a spotlight. We built it.
The Results
5 HBCU classics • The 104 List” with content on all 104 schools on digital • 10 Digital Spotlight videos covering all 104 schools • “On My Yard” Student generated content (Hampton, Jackson State and Prairie View)
